worksafe, needs sound. mesmerizing.

This is the best inexplicable Scandinavian* flash meme thing since Hatten ar din, aka "hatt, baby".

one thing that kinda makes me sad about the existence of wikipedia is that mysteries like "Hatten ar Din" are quickly explained. I think I liked it better when we could only speculate what the hell "Hatt baby" was all about.

as wikipedia sez:

While the meme was well-known in Sweden, it was also extremely popular elsewhere, particularly in the English-speaking world, where the animation was also known as Hatt-baby. To those who did not understand Swedish, the page was completely incomprehensible, and the confluence of Middle Eastern music, Swedish subtitles, and inscrutable imagery entailed a bizarre (and, by most accounts, hilarious) experience.

yeah. So don't click on the wikipedia explanation link above unless you want your "Hatt baby" innocence tarnished. Cool guy holding a soda. Yes, that's what we like.

*yes, I'm well aware Finland isn't really part of Scandinavia. for the purposes of this post, though, it is.

Well, searching WikiPedia for "leek spin" lead to an interesting article about it, and lead to a quick search of Google video for a remix of the song that I decided was too -ist for my Seattle sensibilities (racist, weightist).

Although it would play in Enumclaw. Hah!

Now you'll have to find it. ;>

I'm such a meanie.

That is totally mesmerizing.

Have you seen Metalocalypse yet?

Needless to say, I've known about this for a while now. ;) I think I first heard Loituma from a mix CD on a stripcreator swap, but I definitely knew the tune before being exposed to the flash animation.

This is not music, but it is Danish (actually it's from a Norwegian TV show, and it's not *really* Danish, but a Norwegian would never know the difference), and it's hysterical:
Danish Language

And I don't know if you'd take away the same things from it as I do, but I truly have to recomend Metalocalypse. The instant there's a DVD anouncment, I'm totally pre-ordering *and* signing a pain waiver.
