which is worse, the tattoo that's not an awful idea, but is poorly executed, or the tattoo that fails on any and all conceptual levels to explain why the bearer would want this on their skin in the first place?

Hm, at least the Will Smith one looks like it took a little effort to do. And just personally speaking, I find the blue melanoma thing repellent.

I think the badly executed tattoo is more depressing than the non-sequitur tattoo. Because you know it MIGHT have been good, but it is done and can never be made right again.
