Songs your dad used to sing...if he was in the KKK

Today on the new book cart was an old, donated book of oldtime sheet music with the subtitle "songs your dad used to sing". I picked it up, expecting "bicycle built for two" type of stuff. Instead, it had the following gem:

MASSA'S IN DE COLD GROUND By Stephen C. Foster

Round de meadows am a ringing
De darkeys' mournful song,
While de mockingbird am singing,
Happy as de day am long.

CHORUS:

Down in de corn-field
Hear dat mournful sound:
All de darkeys am a weeping,
Massa's in de cold, cold ground

There were at least two other songs of this ilk in the collection; one had the word "coon" in the first verse. Some with copyright dates as late as the 30's. It was eerily fascinating.
