that was fast... [Dec. 27th, 2003|11:34 pm]
Just me.
on the 26th of Decemeber I posted here about my new domain and changed my LJ email to "lara7@lara7.com".

Today (12/28) I got a spammy email at the new address from "cultzero.com" asking me to "join the cult".

although I am impressed with how quickly my new address was harvested, I must give these folks a thumbs down. go look at their site and try to figure out what it is they do/offer. The only question answered by their FAQ is "How do I post images in a message body?", which is not as important a question as "what the hell is this and why would I bother to create an account here?".

The only clue is if you click on "community:profiles" and see the familiar "boys/girls/search" heading, and that all the profiles you see are interested in Tattoos, old school punk, and really blurry photos.

Analysis: It's makeoutclub.com for goths, crusty punks, the heavily pierced, and illiterates who think that they could actually bag a Suicide Girl if they got a chance to talk to her at a Le Tigre show.

and they're harvesting LJ for addresses. joy.

if your domain setup allows for this, i strongly suggest posting temp addresses in the form tempYYYYMM@example.com or something else like that that includes the date. That allows you to keep killing old temporary addresses that get harvested.

I get roughly 10 spams a day on the account where I do this, not counting the autodeleted spams from addresses more than 3 months old, and 600+ on the account where I don't.
