fun with the local Burning Man discussion list: [Nov. 21st, 2005|02:15 am]
Just me.

It's rare that much on the local BM list amuses me so heartily. This post did, however, so I'm sharing it in case anyone else finds it amusing without the context of being on the list or caring about Burning Man. It's probably more funny if you hate hippies, or ravers.

Background: Someone called "faeriekurl " posted an event announcement, which was then explicated by a list curmudgeon known as Jackass. Jackass's comments are in ALL CAPS. He has not changed any of the poster's original hippie text.

NOTICE SPELLING OF "FAERIE" VS. "FAIRY" THIS IS TO INDICATE THAT THE SENDER IS NOT GAY, BUT MERELY IN TOUCH WITH THE MAJIKAL FAERIELAND OF HIPPY RAVERS.

BY "RETREAT," THE SENDER MEANS "RAVE"

OH DEAR SWEET JEEBUS. A POEM. I SWEAR YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP. NOTICE THE RHYME OF
"TEMPORARY AUTONOMOUS ZONE" AND "CAMP ELPH-IN-STONE." ALSO TERMS LIKE "FATE WE CREATE" AND
"TRIBAL VILLIAGE" MAKE ME WANNNA BARF.

INTENTION 7 IS NOT HELPING WITH MY LUNCH RETENTION

OH REALLY! 7TH CYCLE? CYCLE OF WHAT? HIPPY RAVES?

Begun pre-y2k as a tribal dance community response of unity in the face of the unknown future,

"UNKOWN FUTRE" IS REDUNDANT.

> the retreat continues to hold a space for us to reflect on where you are now and where you want to go empowered by collectivity and

PLEASE. STOP ALREADY.

During this time we put our energies into one container

NO I'MEAN IT.

FUCK. LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO. I WENT AND UPCHUCKED ALL OVER MY KEYBOARD

>Expect workshops, presentations, performances, collaborations, dance labs, innovative yoga formats, meditation space, film screenings, lots of music and massive networking!

EXPECT RAVERS, RAVING, RAVES, RAVE MUSIC, ECSTASY GROPE ROOMS, MORE RAVING, AND HIPPY RAVERS.

>And of course expect a New Years Eve celebration that brings in 2006 without the alchohol vibe and with lots of collective

WHOA!!!!! HOLDUP. WHAT????!?!?!?!? NO BOOZE????? 3 WHOLE DAYS WITH ONLY RAVE DRUGS? YOU'LL GO
CRAZY!

The first night of 2006 will

OH SHIT! I UPCHUCKED ALL OVER MY KEYBOARD AGAIN.

WAIT A MINIT!!! UM........NO! I'VE BEEN THERE. THERE ARE CABINS WITH HEAT. GOOD LUCK "HOLDING
IT TOGETHER"

Think not rave camp and think more
> like Jedi Training Camp.

RAVE CAMP IT IS NOT. JEDI TRAINING YOU WILL FIND. THE FORCE IS STRONG WITH THE HIPPY FAERIE
RAVERS. SHHHHHHH. THERE IS A GREAT DISTURBANCE IN THE FORCE. IT WAS AS IF A THOUSAND HIPPY
RAVERS CRIED OUT IN AGONY THEN WERE SILENCED. THERE CAN ONCE AGAIN BE PEACE IN REALITY.

>in this event the production team does the bare skeleton work but everyone in attendance makes up the functioning limbs and sinews to make the event what it will be. With a goal of encompassing multiple generations of participants from infant to elderly it is encouraged that all people coming out consider who they would most love to share this experience with and how can the most bridging of the generation divide occur. Special attention given to the young and the old to make this accessable is a forefront goal as we consider what we can learn from both of these generations.

APPARENTLY RAVERS COME IN ALL SHAPES, AGES AND SIZES.

I WENT TO AN IMAGINATION STATION ONCE. IT WAS AT A MALL.

YOU ARE NOT A TRIBE. YOU ALSO CANNOT SEE INTO THE FUTURE. YOU ARE HIGH.

From here pods break into formations to

BRING A COAT. ALSO GALOSHES.

"LEARN TO PREREGISTER" SAGE WISDOM FROM THE FAERIES.

I HAD A NIGHTMARE ONCE ABOUT THE REGISTRATION ELVES. IT WAS HORRIBLE. THEY WERE TRYING TO MAKE
ME LEARN TO PREREGISTER AND THEN I FOUND MYSELF IN A LABOR CAMP. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!

This is the real trouble with having a bc/wa community. Here, the crapass ravers and us have different communities with some overlap; there, the crapass ravers are in a single community with the burners.

I think these are the folks who, when confronted with Hakim Bey's NAMBLA membership, fell apart all over the place.

fun, at any rate.

he heh ... someone posted the same hippie raver party announcement on one of the tribe.net tribes I'm in ... that's about art theory.

I'm thoroughly amazed by the need to justify pre-registration ... maybe after registration comes a full paragraph explaining why it's important to tie your shoes or not flush maxipads down the toilet.

The first one was stuck on a committee with me once. I did not hit anyone with the "speaking stick" or otherwise misbehave no matter what anyone else says.
