It's a bad month for novelty college bands of the 80's [Mar. 11th, 2004|03:20 pm]
Just me.
First, Mojo Nixon announced his retirement, which is too bad.

Then today on KEXP's morning show, Jon announced that Dave Blood of the Dead Milkmen had killed himself.

Sure, they haven't been up too much since the mid 90s, but who can forget "Beach Party Vietnam" or "Bitchin' Camaro" or even the overplayed "Punk Rock Girl"? Their songs were juvenile and bordered on offensive, and that what always made me smile when I heard them (well, maybe not so much those last few albums, but you know what I mean).

Pour some bleach on the ground for a brutha in a dress...

i heard about david blood. i played soul rotation at work (i don't know if you ever knew that i work at benrie's) tonight to honor his death... but... no one really ever listened to that album... i talked to a few about it and they were shocked about it... but at the same time.. its one of those bands you listen to for 1.5 years.

Spalding Gray and Dave Blood in the same week. Very depressing.

On the simultaneous occasions of Mr. Nixon's retirement and Mr. Blood's demise, I'm surprised no one has yet said, "if you ain't got Mojo Nixon then your store could use some fixin'."
